The first known as the long rains take place between April and May, the second wet season is known as the short rains which also tend to be a little less intense, these take place between November and December.Sprawled along the Saparingo River on the edge of the Oloololo escarpment, where riverine forest meets the sweeping plains in the seasonal path of the awe-inspiring Great Migration, the camp provides an authentic dose of African wildlife, delivered with legendary Kenyan hospitality. The mornings can, however, be a little chilly, so be sure to bring a light fleece! Its location so close to the equator means that the Masai has very consistent temperatures throughout the year, while the high altitude (1,435 to 2,143m or 4,708 to 7,031ft) moderate these to a very pleasant 25☌/77☏ to 27☌/80☏. Migratory birds will also be present, offering great bird watching opportunities. The resident (non-migratory) wildlife in the Masai Mara is however superb throughout the year, so still well worth consideration as a safari destination. On the plus side, rates are at there cheapest, and visitor numbers to the park are incredibly low, offering a more private safari experience for those who don’t mind taking their chances!ĭuring this period the great migration starts to make its way north towards the Western Corridor of the Serengeti ecosystem, in Tanzania. ![]() As a consequence of the rainfall roads can be hard to navigate and wildlife a little harder to spot. ![]() This wet season is also often characterised by overcast skies and consecutive days of rain. The exact start and end of the rains are always a little uncertain, but generally, this period is the wettest time of the year. For avid photographers, half and full day photographic safaris are available. To reach new heights, drift over the plains via hot air balloon at dawn before enjoying a champagne breakfast. Guests can enjoy game drives by day and night, bush walks along the Mara River and Oloololo Escarpment, and visits to the local village where guests can peruse the Maasai Craft Centre for unique souvenirs. There is a range of activities available within this wildlife-rich concession. Enjoy a dip in the rim-flow swimming pool after a day of activity or indulge in an in-room massage. In the second building, there is a chic dining room with indoor and outdoor seating, and a deck with more spectacular views across the plains. The comfortable lounge area features sofas dotted around coffee tables, a long bar to enjoy an evening cocktail, and a deck to gaze at the gorgeous vistas. The elegant communal buildings are reached by a track leading through the trees, and offer split-level spaces where guests can relax. The interiors The eight superior view tents, located just beyond the swimming pool boast panoramic views of the Maasai Mara. The superior rooms are simple yet contemporary with a neutral palette, stained cypress furniture and tribal décor, while the classic tents are more traditional in feel and design, and are set in the dense vegetation around the Sabaringo River. Each tent features oversized beds, spacious en-suite bathrooms and private verandas. There are 40 tents at Kichwa Tembo 20 superior, 8 superior view and 12 classic. It lies in a private concession allowing for an exclusive safari experience with fewer restrictions on activities.
